Day 12: The beauty of hope

Mama would never describe herself this way, but she is an artist. She is one who likes to add beauty to the mundane. We have everything from hand-embroidered pillow cases to cute snowmen ornaments made with love. Even our dishtowels — items designed to clean up messes — have her handiwork on them. And I wish I had kept count of all the little kids she has made doll quilts for… You see, everything and everyone deserves beauty and hope.

Today, take a look at some of her work and consider Philippians 4:8:

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true,

whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just,

whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely,

whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue,

and if there be any praise, think on these things.

A quilt made for Benjamin's big boy bed... (My sister designed the snowmen because Mama can't draw.)

One of many embroidered pillowcases. Mama is working on one for my husband now. It is a Saab 35F-2 Draken -- the military buff's favorite plane.

One of Mama’s many, many doll quilts. She has also made sleeping bags for dolls and just about anything else my sisters and I wanted.

When we got that wooden kitchen for Colt and Benjamin, I asked Mama if she would make them dishtowels like mine. Within the week a package arrived from Oklahoma with three towels. My favorite is the tomato.

I love her days-of-the-week dishtowels, so I turned one into a journal page for you. I didn’t iron it because I convinced myself you’d like to have the texture in the background… and I hate to iron! I’ve written about Mama’s embroidery work before. To read that story, click here.
