Your assignment (and you really should accept it)

When Colt turned 2, I had four or five pictures with both of us in them — two of those were family portraits. My track record with the other two boys wasn’t much better.

IMG_0949And I take at least 2,600 pictures a year judging by how many I have saved on my computer. Five pictures out of 5,200 because I don’t like how I look. Because every picture seems unflattering. Because. Because. Because.

Then, a few weeks ago I pulled out my daddy’s wallet. I take it out of the drawer every so often, especially on the days that I miss him the most, and I flip through the pictures he carried. Us girls. The grandkids. We’re all in there. And then, tucked away in the back is a single faded picture of his mama.

Every time he switched wallets, he moved that picture, and he carried it with him until the day he died.

She was that important to him.

All of us camera-shy mamas? We’re that important to our kids, too.

They love us with messy hair and no make-up. They love us in our raggedy around-the-house clothes. They love us and they want us in the picture.

Can you do that for them this month?

If you’re in, will you encourage others by sharing your picture on the Simply Faithful Facebook page?

We can do this. For them.
